England soccer player accused of cheating

When England drew against Iceland on Saturday night, it could appear that Jamie Ward-Prowse sabotaged the Icelandic penalty in overtime.

– It’s cheating. I don’t like to see it. It’s not legal, said former soccer star Roy Keane from his current role as a television pundit.

England had taken the lead with an icy penalty from Raheem Sterling as the clock ticked 90 minutes. In extra time, Iceland received a penalty, which former Viking hero Birkir Bjarnason flew over the goal.

However, television footage showed that Ward-Prowse apparently stepped on the area around the chalk mark to cause Bjarnason to slip.

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright, on the other hand, liked what he saw.

– I don’t care if an England player does it. It may be a cheat, but it happens in a competition and we get some of it, so I won’t complain, Wright said.

– That’s what I like about Ward-Prowse: that he has those things with him. He has a little devil in him, Wright said.

A shaky Keane apparently sat up in shock and listened to what the former Arsenal forward said.

– It’s cheating. “It surprises me,” Keane said.

Iren also came up with some criticism of Bjarnason, who missed the penalty.

– We saw him before the game, and that’s why I didn’t think he would score on the penalty. I understand that players are relaxed at times, but it seems almost too relaxed. Looks like he’s waiting to go to the bathroom or a taxi, Keane said in familiar style.
