England will play an international match against Denmark at home at Wembley on Wednesday night. It was anything but a good experience for Harry Maguire defending the English.

Already at five minutes, Maguire incurred a yellow card, but it was going to get worse. In the half hour that had elapsed, the Manchester United captain awkwardly fumbled the ball in midfield. Kasper Dolberg intercepted the ball and a desperate Maguire fouled the Dane and incurred his second yellow card and was thus sent to the shower after 30 minutes.

– He’s clumsy and idiotic. It could quickly have been a direct red card. Due to a failure, the English newspaper The Guardian writes about the incident.

Athletic journalist Oliver Kay was also not very impressed with what he saw of Maguire.

– The effort is really one of the worst I have seen in the England kit. Scary bad. He was very good at Leicester and suitable for United last season, but he has been absolutely terrible so far this season. He seems totally disheartened by what happened in Mykonos. He needs a break, Kay writes.

Kay refers to the August incident in which Maguire was arrested after a fight while on vacation in Greece. He was later found guilty of aggravated battery, resisting arrest and repeated bribery attempts. For that, he must have been sentenced to 21 months and 10 days of probation.

Maguire was removed from the England team for matches against Iceland and Denmark last month as a result of the incident.

As if that weren’t enough, Denmark took the lead after a Christian Eriksen penalty minutes later.

Kyle Walker kicked Thomas Delaney in the foot inside the box after miscommunication with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. In his 100th international match, Christian Eriksen cooled off from the penalty spot and put the Danes ahead.

Mason Mount had a great opportunity for England in the second half, but a brilliant save by Kasper Schmeichel prevented the Chelsea player from scoring.
