Ended up in a deep pond – people pulled out

On Tuesday night, a car ended up in a deep pond on National Highway 163 at Lørenskog train station.

– The message for us was dramatic and at first we were not sure if the car had ended up in a river. But we clarified relatively quickly that there was no danger to life, but those involved probably experienced the situation as unpleasant, operations manager Svein Walle tells Dagbladet.

Not out

Walle says the car was in the pond with water up to the windows. People who were in the car at one point did not get out due to the high water level.

At first, the operations manager told Dagbladet that there was only one person in the car in question, but later confirmed that it was three people.

– The three people who were in the car have been taken out by the fire brigade. The fire brigade has also lifted the car, says the operations manager.

Eirik Sandnes, who is also an operations manager in the Eastern Police District, tells TV 2 that they are interested in hearing the evaluations the driver made before the car ended up in the pond.

– The driver has made an extremely bad assessment and thought it was shallower than it really was, he tells the channel.

Known issue

Police say there is a known problem with the high water levels in the area after heavy rains. The last few days it has rained a lot and therefore a lot of water has accumulated on the roads in Lørenskog.

Walle says there have been several floods in the district recently.

On Tuesday night, the road is closed due to the large amount of water.

Emergency services in Oslo have also had rough days as a result of heavy rains. On Monday, 110 Oslo fire and rescue services were called in for flooding in Rådhusplassen, where they had to help pump water from a sewer and basement, and in Vulkan, where leaves had clogged the drain.
