Fire service surface rescuers picked up a person from Lake Mjøsa shortly after police received a call for help from Nessundet in Ringsaker at 10 o’clock.

– A man in his 60s has been confirmed dead after the incident, Inland Police District Operations Manager Hågen Løvseth tells NRK.

Witnesses alerted emergency services after seeing a person on the ice.

– There were reporters on the ground who called AMK. explains COO Thomas Kjønigsen.

In addition to divers from the fire service and the police, an air ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident.

Warns against going out on the ice

Many people have recently retired to Mjøsisen to go hiking or ice skating. In several places, including outside of Hamar and Lillehammer, volunteers and the municipality have arranged for people to travel safely.

– We strongly recommend that people do not move to Mjøsisen now. In some places there is a great danger of crossing it, reports the Hedmarken fire brigade. Twitter.

Inland fire also requires caution.

– With the warm and early spring that has arrived in the Interior, we ask people who are going to be or will stay by the ice to be very careful.

Prolonged rescue operation

The reason the person ended up in the water is not known.

After the person was found, the divers did more searches to see if there were more in the water. The operation finally ended.

– The person was under the ice when it was found, says task leader Kjøningsen.

Life-saving first aid was implemented immediately. The man was pronounced dead approx. one hour after being picked up by the water.
