Mushaga Bakenga was at the center of the event when Odd beat Viking on Wednesday night.
ODD – VIKING 3-0:
Odd striker Mushaga Bakenga has delivered in front of goal after Odd picked him up this summer. He did the same Wednesday night in the crown-exposed Elite Series match against Viking.
The 28-year-old rolled 1-0 in the first half and was frozen just with the goalkeeper at the start of the second half when he scored the 2-0. Joshua Kitolano, who helped both Bakenga goals, went on to make it 3-0 just before the hour was up.
But before Bakenga showed his scoring qualities, he was involved in a powerful collision after a set piece early in the game. Espen Ruud hit the field and Bakenga collided sharply with Viking goalkeeper Østbø.
Bakenga lay on the mat for a while and was supervised by Odd’s medical staff. The Trøndelag man finally got to his feet, but had to admit during the break that he got a real push.
– I have a lot of pain all over my body. It was like being hit by a truck. I’m going to chew on some painkillers now, he said in the break interview with Eurosport.
After Wednesday’s two goals against Viking, Bakenga now has eight goals in the last ten games.
Stranger devastated in the first place
The match, which was supposed to be played on October 14 but was postponed until Wednesday night as Veton Berisha tested positive for covid-19, started relatively well.
After two minutes, Bakenga had a great opportunity to send the hosts ahead. Kitolano tried a shot, but from an awkward position, sending the ball to the visiting fans. The left-back interposed Bakenga, but Østbø saved Odd’s forward’s shot.
Ten minutes later, we almost witnessed an incredible own goal. Odd attacked in transition and as they approached Viking’s penalty area, Sebulonsen was cleared. But the punt attempt looked more like the end of his own goal, and the ball barely whistled past Viking’s goal. Arild Østbø gave a clear message on what she thought of the situation afterwards.
But the Odd players couldn’t trust the Viking players to score goals for them. After 18 minutes, Joshua Kitolano sent a free kick high over the area. he released 45 degrees to Bakenga, who hit the ball just enough for it to enter the goal at 1-0.
The local team kept running over the Viking. First, Rodic had a good closing opportunity, before Kitolano fired a whistle a few minutes later. Both shots went outside.
Kitolano show
Odd showed his best side in periods of the first half, and especially in the counterattacks he was good for the home team. A few minutes after the break, Odd replied masterfully. Rodic played free on the left and got in front of goal. Kaasa came in at a hundred and headed off to Bakenga who finished first, but right on the block.
The second half had just six minutes when Odd increased the lead. Kitolano snatched the ball in midfield and passed beautifully towards Bakenga. Only with Østbø, Bakenga was not wrong and sent the ball to 2-0.
Seven minutes later, Joshua Kitolano rose to 3-0. The midfielder, who played a fantastic game, received the ball from Rodic and Kitolano placed the ball wonderfully in goal from 18 meters.
Viking had nothing to answer with, and thus ended Odd 3-0. Thus, Odd is still in the running for a medal in this year’s Elite Series season.
