Elabdellaoui suffered burns to his face after a fireworks accident

The Norwegian national team player is said to have been taken to hospital after a firework exploded in his hand on New Year’s Eve.

The accident is said to have occurred during the New Year’s celebration at his home in Turkey. The website further writes that Elabdellaoui may have suffered eye injuries in the accident.

The Norwegian club Galatasaray writes in a statement that they are not in danger of death.

– Omar Elabdellaoui was taken to hospital after an accident at his home. He has burns to his face and an eye injury that is being further investigated. More information will be provided in due course, but our player is conscious and the injuries are not life threatening, he says.

According to Hürriyet, Galatasaray Vice President Abdurrahim Albayrak, Coach Fatih Terim and Captain Arda Turan are all at Elabdellaoui hospital.

During the national team meeting in November, Elabdellaoui was diagnosed with the coronavirus, and Norway had to set up the famous national emergency team.

The 29-year-old, who is the vice captain of the national team, plays for Galatasaray in the Turkish top division. He previously played for Hull in the Premier League and was captain of Greek Olympiakos before transferring to Galatasaray this summer.

Elabdellaoui has played 49 times for Norway’s A national team.
