Eastern Norway and the eastern parts of Agder will become the climate winners by Easter 2021. In the west and north of the country, it is heading into a week with more wind and rainfall.

Published:

– In Eastern Norway, the week starts off mildly, with temperatures above 10 degrees. During the week it will be cooler, with plenty of sun, lower degrees at night and a possibility of crowds for skiers, on-call meteorologist Hanne Beate Skattør at the Meteorological Institute tells NTB.

Westerners should prepare for a wet start to Easter week, with some rain on Mondays and Tuesdays. The snow line will reach 2,000 meters in some places in the south, while in Dovrefjell it will be around 1,500 meters.

– In this area, it will change to snow at night, which will create challenging driving conditions. It will be a bit difficult to predict when that transition from rain to snow will come, says Skattør.

Best Wednesday through Friday in the west.

From Wednesday it will also be cooler in the west. In some mountainous areas, rainfall will turn to snow, while the weather will be mostly relaxed.

– We have night frosts, and then there is likely to be some precipitation, but the amount and shape can change quickly. Best viewed Wednesday through Friday, when there will be some showers, but periods of sunshine, the meteorologist says.

In the far north of the country, Finnmark can have periods of sunshine for the first few days, while Nordland and Troms seem to have some rain, sleet, and snow. During the week, Finnmark will also have a series of snow and rain showers.

Weather forecasts may change

Towards the weekend, a low pressure will build up reaching south from the west of Spitsbergen.

– It has a somewhat unfamiliar low pressure path and draws cold air from the areas around Greenland, and then the temperatures will drop. It will provide weather conditions and building winds along the coast, especially from the northwest and north, while the east will remain protected, says Skattør.

The tax collector emphasizes that there is still a little left for the Easter weekend itself and that, therefore, the forecasts may change.

– It would be advisable to follow the weather forecast. With the north wind direction, there is a possibility of low polar pressure forming. If they go in towards the coast, the weather will change rapidly.
