Earthquake in Greece and Turkey: – 14-year-old boy rescued:

Rescue work has been in full swing in both Greece and Turkey since Friday’s powerful earthquake shook the northeast of the Greek island of Samos.

Worst of all is the material destruction in Turkey’s third largest city, Izmir. About 8,000 are said to have participated in the rescue efforts over the weekend.

Several died and were injured

On Sunday, it was reported that many more dead than alive were found. Therefore, the joy was great when the rescue team around midnight heard the voice of what turned out to be a 14-year-old boy among the concrete masses.

Passersby were urgently asked to be quiet, so voices could be heard from the ruins on Sunday.

In one of the 21 high-rise blocks that collapsed after Friday’s earthquake, search teams suddenly heard a voice around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

An hour later, search teams had mapped that it belonged to a 14-year-old girl, Idil Şirin, who was reported missing after the earthquake.

The girl, who had been lying in the ruins for 58 hours, was transported on a stretcher with injuries to her leg and taken to hospital, but was therefore awake. Soon after, news came that an old man had been rescued from another building.

– It happened a few minutes ago. It’s unbelievable, a true miracle, local journalist Duygu Tuncer reported shortly after, according to Aftonbladet, quoting Turkish Milliyet.

70 years rescued

A rescue worker told AFP news agency Sunday that at least 10 people may still be buried in the remains of the building. However, there was great uncertainty as to whether it would be possible to get people out alive.

– It will be a miracle if they are found alive, a woman who was waiting again about the family told AFP on Friday.

So far, 69 people have been found dead in Turkey, while 969 have been injured, NTB reports. On Sunday, about 220 were still hospitalized.

Rescue teams in Turkey also rescued a 70-year-old man on Sunday from the masses of buildings that collapsed in the earthquake.
