– On Tuesday, a memorial service will be organized inside the camp for the Dutch soldiers. Norway is sending a representative to show its support, says Army spokesman Eirik Skomedal.

It was on Saturday that the Dutch warrant officer was found dead at Målselv barracks in Troms. The 42-year-old was a recognized soldier in his home country and death affects many. He leaves a wife and a child in the Netherlands.

The man had been in the room all day. His space colleagues had been in contact with him several times. A doctor pronounced him dead around 6 p.m. Saturday night.

– They did an autopsy today. There it became clear that there was a medical reason why he died. He died of illness, says Police Superintendent Katrine Grimnes in the Mid-Troms sheriff’s district.

Dutch military police in Norway

The noncommissioned officer was dispatched to the University Hospital in northern Norway this weekend and had an autopsy performed on Tuesday.

An army spokesman, Eirik Skomedal, yesterday described to NRK that the death was shocking and unexpected.

Dutch military police arrived in Målselv on Monday. They have investigated the death, in parallel with the Norwegian police.

Practicing winter war

The Dutch Armed Forces have been in Troms since mid-January. Here they have their own camp, called “orange camp”. Although they have been in quarantine, they have practiced inside the fences. Whether you’re fighting the cold or mastering winter skiing, skiing and ice swimming.
