(Dundalk – Molde 1-2) After two seasons on the sidelines, Molde is back in Europe. There was a hard-fought victory against the Irishman Dundalk.

For the first time since the 2016/17 season, Molde returns to the group stage of the Europa League. There they got off to a dream start, but not an easy task, against Dundalk.

Because it was the Irish who got ahead before the break. Dundalk is the lowest ranked team in the group, but created big problems for the guests in the first 45 minutes. Goals from Etzaz Hussain and Ohi Omoijuanfo in the second half saved the night for Erling Moe and company.

– It tasted good with three important points. We sank and we were not very good in the first part, but in the second we passed them. They received a bit of pressure in the end, but it is natural when we are going to maintain the lead, says the winner of the match on TV 2.

In the previous two seasons, Molde has failed to advance from the playoffs to the tournament. This year, the hope of the Champions League lived for a long time, but the Hungarian Ferencváros got too strong at the last hurdle and the blue jerseys were sent to the Europa League group stage together with Arsenal, Rapid Wien. and the Irishman from Dundalk.

At the same time that Molde beat Dundalk, Arsenal won their match. This means that the Romsdalians and the great London club lead the pack together.

The punishment

Molde hardly created a real chance against Dundalk in the first 45 minutes. The home team had done their homework and resisted. Although the guests had the most of the ball, the home team was equally dangerous, and ten minutes before the break it was reduced.

Dundalk matched very well on the edge and became an embarrassingly unmarked Sean Murray. The forward’s header was well placed and Linde reached helplessly for the ball.

At the other end, Dundalk’s 39-year-old goalkeeper Gary Rogers kept up Molde’s increasingly frequent attempts in the second half.

Turn operation

But even the very experienced last chance can stop everything, and in the second half Molde dominated a lot.

Midway through the round, the visiting team finally pulls it off. Marcus Holmgren Pedersen was an asset on the right wing and became Etzaz Hussain. With a great full volley goal, he tied.

Ten minutes later, Ohi Omoijuanfo completed the restructuring operation. Substitute Erling Knudtzon fell to the ground in the box and the referee correctly pointed to the penalty spot. From 11 meters, the point was safe.
