DRAMMEN: With a slightly below-average first half and sending off in the second, Godset had no easy task in chasing points against Start. However, the SIF players were not stopped for that reason and just as easily played a draw with one man less on the field. Moses Mawa scored the goal that gave the SIF a point in the contentious match.
Before Sunday’s game, Start had 18 points and was in the standings in the table, while Strømsgodset was in 10th place with his 23. SIF had played five draws before the deal in round 21. So maybe it wasn’t that strange that Henrik Pedersen had said that he hoped the margins would soon go in favor of navy blue before the game.
However, the match was about to get off to a disastrous start for Godset when Start had a solid double chance after a few minutes. The yellow one came within two shots at point blank range, but Viljar Myhra held firm in the home team’s goal. The SIF players could smell victory in the air.
In the first ten minutes of the game, it was Start who had a slight advantage. Kristiansand’s team had cut more ball possession and had more chances than the home team in navy. However, the property became more and more visible on its own territory after just over a quarter of an hour. The locals crowned some good minutes with a half chance that Johan Hove signed in the 19th minute. The young man tried from about 20 meters, but had to try to disappear just under half a meter over the crossbar.
Solid opportunity from Mawa
Moses Mawa was the first big opportunity for energy goods. The 24-year-old positioned himself very well in front of goal when he received a post from the right side placed right in front of him. Mawa fired, but a Start player managed to avoid the opportunity before going to the box. Thus, he was still scoreless at Old Grass at 22 minutes.
Almost half an hour into the first half, the guests landed a corner kick that could have been very dangerous for Godset. Starting Christian Bolaños fired from the corner flag onto the field, where teammate Vegard Bergan was ready to advance to goal. The latter provided a great opportunity for Start, but the attempt once again went straight into the clutches of Viljar Myhra. Until now, the last chance had been a really good game for the home team.
Penalty goal to start
Just over six minutes before the break, Godset was penalized when Ipalibo Jack pinned a player inside the box under a corner. It resulted in a penalty kick and 0-1 at the start. The goal was signed by Christian Bolaños, who put the ball to the left of Viljar Myhra. A goal against was not exactly what the SIF players needed just before entering the locker room for half-time.
SIF forward Lars-Jørgen Salvesen responded with a solid first-half overtime possibility, but failed to draw at Marienlyst Stadium. Captain Mikkel Maigaard interposed the southerner who was very well positioned in front of the goal. Salvesen nodded, but the attempt ended a few inches outside the cage. Thus, it was 0-1 for the guests after the first part of the game.
2nd round
Neither team made changes during the break, but it was clear it was a hungry Godset team coming back from the locker room. Moses Mawa had a chance just a minute after the tackle, but the shot from about 20 yards went straight into the Start keeper’s clips.
Godset and Salvesen had another chance early in the second half. Sørlendingen had a good chance when Mikkel Maigaard took a corner that ended right in front of Salvesen just off the field. The striker finished off, but the Start goalkeeper barely saved with a stretched left foot. The navy blues pressed Start well, but had not yet managed to get the ball into the net. However, there was no doubt that the game was now controlled by the hosts.
Red to Ipalibo
Ipalibo Jack received his second yellow card in Sunday’s game in the 68th minute. Two yellows turn red and Jack had to leave the field and let his teammates continue with only ten men on the field. Jack’s first yellow came after holding out in the first half, while the second came after he fielded an opponent. It’s certainly not a dream situation for Strømsgodset, who had really picked up speed after the first half.
However, one less man on the field shouldn’t put an end to Godset’s search for points. Moses Mawa was equally happy to score in the 78th minute. The Oslo boy threw the ball into goal from close range. Johan Hove was the scorer. Strømsgodset was definitely in the fight even though they weren’t complete.
Although the hosts fought hard to get all three points, they had to settle for a point in the match against Start. Lars-Jørgen Salvesen had a good chance in extra time, but missed it. The match thus ended 1-1 and became Godset’s sixth consecutive draw.
