On Monday, a soldier on vacation was diagnosed with coronary heart disease. The person then had our house on file for two days. During the week, several people who returned home during the Easter holidays were diagnosed with Covid-19.

On Saturday, two more soldiers were diagnosed with the infection.

– Now 16 are infected, two of them are in the camp and 14 are home on leave. It’s difficult and I don’t want to speculate if it can be made bigger, but we are not ignoring that, says Army spokesman Eirik Skomedal.

Skomedal did not have access to information on how many or which municipalities are affected by the outbreak when NRK spoke to him, but there are several municipalities.

It also doesn’t have an overview of how many people are in quarantine.

The source of the infection is currently unknown. This is the first case of infection in the field since mid-February.

– We have probably not seen the end, but we are sure that the routines we have and that the infection monitoring work we do together with the municipality will give us control, says Skomedal.

The army is now cooperating with the municipalities where they are infected, the municipal superior in Bardu and FHI.

The former owners made the mayor of Bardu, Toralf Heimdal, ask for a permit for soldiers.

– Previously we have had periods in which they have not been allowed to travel home, and only strictly necessary trips have been made. Now, at Easter, it was important to take people home and take a break from the service, Skomedal says.
