On Thursday, December 31, it was announced that Donald Trump would not attend his annual New Years Eve party at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The president gave no reason why he should suddenly go to Washington DC and the White House, but the incident was seen as strange. Perhaps especially since the president and first lady Melania Trump had sold hundreds of tickets to the event, with a unit price of 10,000 crowns.
The New Year was celebrated by at least the presidential couple in the house from which they must leave at the end of January. When it became known that they were going to leave the party, various media wrote speculative cases about what was really going to happen. Should the party go off the rails anyway or did the guests get their beards in the mailbox?
Turns out the absent couple didn’t act as a party brake, because last night hundreds got stuck in the new year at the magnificent Florida property.

Among the guests were President Tiffany’s sons, Donald jr. and Eric, who all celebrated like we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic. Various media outlets write that not a single bandage was seen among the guests, despite the waiters wearing it at all times.
More than 300,000 Americans have so far lost their lives in the pandemic, and many wonder why the president should celebrate his annual party. Nor does it appear that there was much distance between the guests, who ate in a solid glass room reminiscent of something of Versailles.
Eric Trump and his wife Lara were among those who participated. In a photo that Trump himself shared on Instagram, you get an impression of how big the party was. The guests sat together, walked without bandages, and hugged.
In addition to Trump’s children, other famous guests were also present. Among others, the politician Matt Gaetz, who shared several photos of the event. According to a guest who spoke to the Daily Mail, one had to be a member of the Mar-a-Lagos club in order to buy a ticket.
It is not known how many people participated, but by Wednesday about 500 people had purchased tickets.

The New Years party has been a tradition for Donald Trump since 2000, often rolling out the red carpet and inviting the press. It all peaked in 2017, when the president had up to 800 guests at the party, according to the Palm Beach Post.
That did not happen this year. By the way, this is the second time in two years that the president ditches his own New Years party.
In 2018, Melania had to host alone, due to the closure of the state apparatus that occurred from December 22 to January 25.
That Trump escaped from the sunny property may have something to do with a case that CNN wrote in late December. It was alleged that the president was very unhappy with the renovation works that have been carried out on his private part of the property. It is Melania Trump who has had the aesthetic responsibility, but should not have fallen in love.
The White House has yet to comment on either the New Year’s Eve party or the renovation speculation.
