President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have launched a new website that will “safeguard the wonderful legacy of the Trump administration.”

It comes just over three months after Trump was kicked out of several of the largest social media platforms, and is apparently an attempt to establish more contact with supporters in the wake of this.

Among other things, visitors can “share their thoughts” with Trump and former first lady Melania, and have the opportunity to request reservations for the couple for their own events, as well as personal greetings.

The site was given the address “45office.com,” in reference to Trump’s place in the ranks of US presidents.

Skip the fades

Whether the former presidential couple will charge for these services and what the price will be in that case, nothing is said. However, it is not uncommon for former presidents to receive considerable sums to attend or speak at various events.

With familiar style, Trump comes out with confidence, stating in the first section of the website’s information page that during his presidency he “launched the most extraordinary political movement in history, overthrew political dynasties, fought the establishment in Washington” and he became the first true outsider to occupy the White House.

However, he is silent about the two Supreme Court cases against him, the handling of COVID-19 that caused more than half a million deaths, the assault on Congress that completed the politically turbulent four-year period in which Trump he was president of the United States.

Instead, the website refers to the pandemic as “China’s coronavirus plague,” emphasizing that Trump “saved countless lives” by closing borders to the country and Europe at an early stage.

– Will shape the story

American expert and NORCE researcher Hilmar Mjelde isn’t surprised by the way Trump describes himself on the recent website, but says the omission of the many scandals speaks for itself.

– Presidents always try to shape the history of their presidency. They do this mainly by writing a book and building their own museum, the so-called “presidential libraries.” That’s the same thing Trump is doing here, he tells Dagbladet.

“That Trump omits so many important incidents is in itself an implicit recognition of how serious and guilty they were,” he said.

Believe that influence decreases

Mjelde believes that Trump is in a class of his own in the ranks of American presidents and doubts that he can maintain his political influence in the future.

– Trump will be remembered as the worst president in history. He dethrons James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson by a good margin, he says, continuing:

– This is because Trump attempted a coup after the electoral defeat and left the pandemic crisis to the states. In both cases, it did the exact opposite of what presidents should do in such situations.

In January, Trump’s profiles were removed from Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, in response to an attack on Congress in which six people lost their lives.

– Trump is losing relevance now that he has resigned. He will have to fight to retain control of the party. You can’t navigate dissatisfaction with the 2020 elections until 2024, believes Mjelde.

Is Donald Trump finished?

– Yes, I think Trump gave himself a red card with his grotesque behavior after the 2020 election. There are enough talented leadership leaders in the party that they should take a hit in the arm by 2024, he concludes.
