From now on, Denmark will be divided into zones based on infection. Health director Bjørn Guldvog informs VG that this weekend they are discussing whether they should introduce something similar in Norway.
At Saturday’s press conference, Health Minister Magnus Heunicke presents a new way of dividing Denmark, in order to be able to close more locally rather than shutting down the entire country.
This is the system:
- Level 1: local infection
- Level 2 – Local outbreaks
- Level 3 – Generalized infection
- Level 4 – Generalized infection with pressure in hospitals
- Level 5: pressure exceeds the capacity of hospitals
The new way of dividing the country makes it possible to press harder in regions with high contagion, than to do it in the whole country, as it has been until now.
The country had a record 1,191 cases of infection in the last 24 hours, the VG summary shows. Actual infection rates were apparently higher in March and April, as in Norway, because less was tested compared to now.
Denmark has recently reported one infection registry after another. 10,284 become infected in two weeks. They also see an increase in the number of hospitalized: on Saturday, there are 144 covid patients in Danish hospitals.
The capital region (Copenhagen) has the highest infection, followed by Central Jutland and North Jutland.

– Is it relevant to introduce similar measures in Norway?
– This is something that we are discussing this weekend, but we have not concluded anything. But we are looking at all the new measures that can be implemented and we are considering whether it may be appropriate in Norway, says director Bjørn Guldvog at VG’s Norwegian Health Directorate.

Zone-based business crisis packages
Trade and Industry Minister Simon Kollerup adds that the zoning system will also apply to businesses, and what support they receive.
– When the notification system turns red, help packages follow. If you have to close, you’ll get help paying bills, he says.
– There will be a day tomorrow, a day after the crown. Until we get there, the alert system and aid packages will provide predictability.
Last week, the government introduced stricter measures across the country after a record infection in the country. These were then the new measures for the whole country:
- Mandatory with masks indoors in public places such as educational institutions, shops, cafes and restaurants
- The assembly bans are reduced from 50 to 10 people.
- Prohibition of sale of alcohol after 22:00.
- Border control tightens
- All restrictions that have already been entered will continue, including the call to work at home if possible.
