– We must be prepared for the introduction of new measures at very short notice. This is something that has been continuously evaluated by the Norwegian Directorate of Health and the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) over the past 24 hours, Høie says.
This weekend, the Norwegian Health Directorate was given the urgent task to assess the situation with regard to any measure in Norway. The new virus is spreading rapidly and has now been detected in Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy and Australia.
On Sunday, the Norwegian Directorate of Health requested that all travelers from the UK be tested. All UK travelers must present a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival.
At the same time, the list of countries introducing refusals to enter British aircraft is growing.
– Many countries that have done this do not have the same rules as Norway when it comes to quarantine, testing and close monitoring. It is not something that can be implemented in a short time, and then there are probably many of them who quickly closed the borders because they had no other options. In Norway, we had the opportunity to introduce even clearer monitoring than the strict quarantine and testing regime that we have. But we will also consider the same measures this morning, says Høie.
