Emergency services are on site and police are working on technical and tactical investigation steps, the Eastern Police District announced on Twitter at 09:43 on Sunday.
The person was found dead in the water on Spjærøy, which is one of the four large islands in the Hvaler municipality.
– The dead man was taken out of the water and examined. Witnesses are being questioned and family members are being notified, police write.
Emergency services are still working at the scene, but police currently have little information about the death. At the moment, they do not want to comment on how the person was found or who alerted the police.
– So far, it is only what has been posted on Twitter that we can get away with. We are still working on the site, but will provide more information when we learn more, says duty attorney Laila Hegard in the NRK East Police District.
NRK has been in contact with the Horn Rescue rescue boat, which is stationed in Kirkøy, but they have not assisted in the case.
Spjærøy is one of the four large islands of Hvaler.
