– The circumstances surrounding the death were unclear, but after a preliminary forensic examination, the police have opened a murder investigation, says police lawyer Anders Svarholt in the Eastern Police District in a press release.

Family members have been notified.

The man was found on September 23. When the police arrived at the apartment, it was clear that the man had been dead for some time.

The preliminary forensic examination shows that the deceased have injuries compatible with murder, according to the Police.

– The case is currently being investigated as a homicide with an unknown author. We also have no suspects yet. But it is important for us to point out that the local Sarpsborg community need not be anxious, Svarholt tells NRK.

Police are now conducting forensic investigations at the deceased’s apartment. The police claim that this work will also take place over the weekend.

– The final forensic report will conclude with a more precise time of the murder. Police are awaiting the final report from the Department of Forensic Medicine within the next week, Svarholt says.

The eastern police district has requested technical assistance from Kripos.
