The large bank currently has more than 22,000 employees.
When the downsizing is complete, the bank will be left with just over 20,000 employees.
The roughly 1,600 positions will be eliminated in the next six to 12 months, the group states in an official announcement.
The deadline to request the final package is October 25.

According to the Danish news agency Ritzau, the big cuts in the workforce are part of a long-term plan to save money.
– It is never pleasant to have to say goodbye to committed and competent colleagues. We will do what we can to make it as appropriate and respectful as possible.says Danske Bank CEO Chris Vogelzang.
The 1,600 positions will be removed by voluntary and natural resignation.
Danske Bank is the largest banking and financial group in Denmark.
Five million customers
The group has a total of 662 branches in 15 countries with a total of five million customers. Many of them are in Norway.
The bank also operates a number of subsidiaries in housing brokerage, equity brokerage and leasing, including Nordania Leasing.
– We will start by giving those colleagues who are thinking of trying something else in work life, or who want to retire, a better opportunity to do so, says Karsten Breum, executive vice president of Danske Bank with HR, to EkstraBladet.
– Limited scope in Norway
In Norway, Danske Bank has its commercial office in Trondheim, but it also has a total of 31 offices in various Norwegian cities.
1,000 employees are affiliated with Danske Bank in Norway. It is not known whether these will be affected by the reduction.
– For Danske Bank Norge, the group’s current announcement will be limited in scope, but we must be honest that we will also have fewer positions in the future than we do today.
