After almost eight years as rector of the University of Bergen, Dag Rune Olsen has decided to resign as rector of the UiB as of Monday.

Write the university in a press release on Sunday.

Olsen agreed to start a new post as rector at the University of Tromsø (UiT) on August 1, but this spring he will already be involved in work at UiT, according to the report.

– I don’t want to put the organization or myself in situations where conflicts of interest may arise, says Olsen.

You will work for UiT one day a week

Olsen says the University of Tromsø wants him to work for them up to one day a week, to provide input on issues that the UiT board will address in the spring semester.

– These are mainly related to hiring and transition to unified management, but it is correct to say that this has had an impact on my conclusion. Stepping aside in Bergen will remove any conflict of interest concerns, says Olsen.

Margareth Hagen takes over

Starting Monday, Vice Chancellor Margareth Hagen will serve as chancellor, and will also be proposed as chancellor until Aug. 1 at an extraordinary council meeting during the week, the report said.
