Cross-country skiing, Tour de Ski | Russians risk being expelled from the Tour de Ski:

It is the Swedish newspaper Expressen that claims to know that more athletes are at risk of being expelled from the competition.

According to the newspaper, which has spoken to race director Pierre Mignerey at the FIS, several athletes may be rejected to continue in the competition after not wearing a mask after finishing Saturday’s race.

Among those who can be punished are Russian stars Natalya Neprjajeva and Julia Stupak. The newspaper does not mention the other athletes who run the risk of being deprived of accreditation.

During this season’s edition of the competition, the FIS has introduced the requirement of a bandage when they arrive on the track, and that it is put back on immediately after the race. The leaders of the various teams must wear face masks at all times. The rules should not have been followed during the first two stages, writes Expressen.

On Friday, the competition management is said to have issued a stern warning that athletes risk being sent off if the rules are not followed.

“Yesterday there were only warnings, but today we will use fines, and if people do not follow the rules, their accreditation will be revoked for the rest of the Tour,” Mignerey told the newspaper.

After Saturday’s race, images are now circulating showing several athletes not wearing masks.

– I have already received the photos and all cases will be reported to the jury. We will act, Mignerey said Saturday.

Neprajaeva was among the athletes who were not wearing a mask when she came out of the arena. In the interview area, the use of a mask is not required, but only a strong request, continues the head of the FIS.

The Swedish national team coach, Anders Bystrøm, tells the newspaper that he saw Mignerey with his mobile phone where “he took photos a little hidden by the chest, so it may be that someone hears him today from the FIS”.

Swede Linn Svahn won Saturday’s joint outing against Russia’s Julia Stupak, who is also having bad weather after careless use of bandages. Neprajajeva finished 16th in Saturday’s race. The two Russians are in eighth and ninth place respectively in the summary after two stages.
