– Could have crossed the line – VG

(Sheffield United 2-3 Manchester United) After a nightmare start for Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men, they turned the tables on victory and gave Sheffield United a historically bad start to the season.

Just before the end of the game, cameras caught Solskjær and fellow coach Chris Wilder in a sideline bite, after a late tackle on Marcus Rashford. With another loss, the pressure mounts further on Sheffield United manager Wilder, who now has six points for the team in front of him and nine points for safety.

– I’m sorry. You may have crossed the line with a word, says Solskjær in an interview with Amazon.

– We’re done with that. We’ll go in and have a glass afterward, but there were a couple of late tackles that I reacted to, says Solskjær in an interview with TV 2.

Wilder also considers that the little fight is over.

– As I said before, there is always an invitation to have a beer afterwards, says the boss of Sheffield United.

Because towards the end of the game, the temperature was rising. It seemed to end with a comfortable Manchester United victory, but four minutes before the end, the home team got the ball into the goal. Victor Lindelöf headed a ball into the back of the head of Sheffield United forward David McGoldrick, who directed the ball to the back of a confused Henderson.

Nightmare start

But it already started early in the first round. For the first time, Dean Henderson had the opportunity early on ahead of David de Gea in a Premier League match where both were injury free. Solskjær explained the choice with Henderson’s good form and the keeper’s knowledge of the Sheffield team, where the keeper has been on loan for the previous two seasons.

However, it didn’t seem like Henderson was used to the pressure from the home team early on.

After four minutes, Oliver Burke tackled him when he had to serve the ball. Burke sent the ball into the box, where David McGoldrick appeared and sent the ball to a rebounding Henderson.

A nightmare start for Solskjær, and shortly thereafter there was also a sharp fall for the other Norwegian involved in the match. Sander Berge counted after a run and immediately got behind his thigh. The Norwegian was replaced and will probably have to settle for a few weeks off the bench.

Fought back

Sheffield United had a great chance to score on a counterattack back in the 16th minute, but John Fleck’s shot from the left missed over the bar.

From then on, it was mainly Manchester United. Marcus Rashford leveled with an excellent reception in the 25th minute, and eight minutes later Anthony Martial put the visiting team ahead after a good pass from Paul Pogba.

The game was reversed and the Manchester guests continued the good counter-attack game in the second half. Only five minutes had passed when they played again and once again it was Rashford who put the ball into goal, although a shot that Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale probably should have avoided.

Despite the downsizing of the hosts towards the end, Manchester United stayed away, claiming their 10th consecutive Premier League victory (six of six this season). Solskjær’s men are now just two points behind second with one game less played.

Historically bad

At the same time, the Solskjær men managed to erase a sad record in the club’s history.

For 80 years the club has had what has been considered the worst start to the season in top English football. In the 1930-31 season, there were 12 consecutive defeats for Manchester United, before winning in the 13th round of the league.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, had played 12 league games before Thursday night’s game, with eleven final losses and one draw.

After 13 games, Sander Berge’s team is left with just one point and is at the bottom of the Premier League table. In historical context, it is true that Portsmouth had two negative points at the same time in 2009/2010, but then they won two games and played a draw.
