– We still have too high an infection and a high level of infection compared to a few weeks ago, Prime Minister Erna Solberg opens Wednesday’s press conference.

However, there is a hint of flattening in the number of new infections and hospitalizations, but the Prime Minister emphasizes that it is not yet possible to lower the shoulders.

– We must see a clear decrease in infection to facilitate social measures. Therefore, we are extending current infection control measures for at least three weeks ahead, he says, adding:

– I hope that in three weeks we will be in a situation that allows greater social contact during the Christmas holidays. Next week, the government will present more concrete advice for the Christmas celebration.

Solberg also says that Christmas will be different this year.

– Vaccination in early 2021

The Prime Minister then says that vaccination can start in Norway as soon as a vaccine is completely ready.

– There is hope that the EU pharmaceutical authorities may approve one or two vaccines during the year, says Solberg.

Therefore, vaccination of risk groups can begin in this country in early 2021.

– So I know this is starting to be difficult for everyone, but there is light in the tunnel, so you have to persevere, he adds.

– Slight decline

– In the weekly report that arrives today, we will see a slight decrease in infection rates, but it takes some time to reverse such development as we have had, says the director of the Line Vold department of the National Institute of Public Health to TV 2 on Wednesday for the morning.

He points in particular to the challenges of reducing the spread of infection in large cities, even though the Oslo figures as a whole now show signs of stabilization.

In the last 14 days, 2,462 new cases of infection have been registered in Oslo, and it is the districts of Grorud and Bjerke that have the highest infection pressure.

3,621 cases of infection were reported in week 47, an 11 percent decrease from the previous week.

This is demonstrated by the latest weekly report from the National Institute of Public Health, which was presented on Wednesday.

At week 46, 4,080 cases of infection were reported.

NIPH notes that the number of test subjects simultaneously decreased by 16 percent from week 46 to week 47. The proportion of positives among test takers increased from 2.77 percent to 2.92 percent.

It’s too early to tell if the measures are sufficient

Violence says it is still too early to say whether the measures that were implemented at the national and local levels a couple of weeks ago are sufficient and says the National Institute of Public Health is concerned about the situation in nursing homes in the future, where infection can be expected to lead to serious illness.

At midnight, 33,713 people infected with corona were registered in this country, preliminary figures show. There is an increase of 530 cases reported in the last 24 hours, reports NTB.

In the last two days, the increase is 948 reported cases, according to figures from the National Infectious Disease Notification System (MSIS).

The increase is less than in the day to midnight Wednesday night a week ago, when 594 new infections were recorded. In the last week, the increase is 3,608.
