OSLO (Nettavisen): The National Institute of Public Health sees signs that covid-19 infection rates are stabilizing, but there is a problem: simultaneously with this flattening, there is a clear decrease in the number of people who undergo tests.
The latest weekly report for week 47 speaks of 135,720 people who have been tested, a 16 percent decrease from the previous week.

– We do not know very well why, says section chief Karoline Bragstad in the section of influenza and other airborne infections at the National Institute of Public Health to Nettavisen on Friday.
– The number of people who want to be tested is also related to the number of people who feel sick. There are, and have been, other circulating respiratory viruses with symptoms similar to those of corona, he explains.
Less inquiries
Bragstad claims that the proportion of consultations for COVID-19 in doctor’s offices, emergency rooms and test stations has stabilized at 11-12 percent in the last three weeks.
– We also see that there were more people with respiratory symptoms in October than now in November. This may be related to the fact that we have had a fairly high incidence of rhinovirus for several weeks, which is only now beginning to decline, he says in an email response to Nettavisen.
Bragstad emphasizes that testing activity remains high:
– There has certainly been a big increase in the number of people who have tested themselves in the last four weeks, but now it may seem like it’s going down a bit again, he says.

Stoltenberg: – We are undecided
NIPH Director Camilla Stoltenberg was at the crown situation press conference on Wednesday that the decline in infections may be related to fewer people getting tested.
After a significant increase in infection in recent months, first slowly and then rapidly, the National Institute of Public Health saw fewer new cases of infection in week 47 for the first time in a long time than the previous week.
– In week 47, the number was lower for the first time than the previous week. It is the first time since the first half of October that we have seen him, Stoltenberg said Wednesday, explaining why the National Institute of Public Health still does not dare to lower its shoulders:
– It is promising news, but we still doubt. We hope and believe to see the results of the new infection control measures, but it may also be affected by more human testing, Stoltenberg said.
135,720 tested in week 47
In week 47, 3,621 cases were reported, 11 percent less than last week when 4,080 cases were reported (144 per 100,000 inhabitants during weeks 46 and 47 in total, compared to 151 per 100,000 inhabitants during weeks 45 and 46 in total, according to the latest FHI weekly report.
In week 47, 135,720 people were tested, a 16 percent decrease from the previous week. At the same time, the proportion of positives among test takers increased from 2.77% at week 46 to 2.92% at week 47.
