Due to a confusing infection situation, with two new cases of infection on Saturday, the municipality of Ålesund will introduce new measures from midnight on Monday.

Businesses will be closed, including gyms, pools, and spa facilities. Public places where organized sports are held for children under the age of 20 can be opened.

Shoe stop and bandage order

Pour stops will also be introduced. When it is not possible to maintain a distance of at least one meter, it is mandatory to use a mask. This applies, among other things, to shops, public transport and restaurants.

– You must not have more than five guests in your own home. If you want to meet more people, you should meet outdoors, says Ålesund Mayor Eva Vinje.

No more than ten people should meet per week. This does not include the necessary contacts in, for example, a work context.

The regulations have also been adopted by the neighboring municipalities of Sula and Giske.

Mutated variant

The municipality introduces a home office where possible. All teaching in universities, colleges and vocational schools must be done digitally.

It is not allowed to hold events, with the exception of philosophical meetings and ceremonies in religious and philosophical houses.

This is a case of newer virus variants, the so-called mutated variants, which have broken out in the municipality, Sunnmørsposten writes.

– stressful enough

The mayor of Ålesund, Eva Vinje Aurdal (Labor Party), was asked whether it should not be closed earlier at the press conference where the regulations were presented.

– I think people have experienced it as quite stressful if we weren’t going through the same difficult situation that they have had in recent months, for example, in Oslo. I think people may have a hard time imagining how tough it has been. We haven’t been in the same boat at all, says Vinje, according to NTB.

– That we now choose to adopt stricter measures is because the infection situation dictates it. So we should have gone out earlier, I don’t see that it’s necessary.

The municipality has gone from risk level 1 to 4 in a short time. Among other things, there is an outbreak related to NTNU in which nine have so far been infected with an unknown source of infection. On occasion, infected people have trained in a gym that has been closed.
