EIDSVOLL / OSLO (Dagbladet): – This is the most serious health situation I can remember here in Eidsvoll municipality.

This is what municipal chief physician Carl Magnus Jensen tells Dagbladet after he and two representatives of the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) were on a two-and-a-half-hour visit to the affected Villa Skaar Valstad institution for the elderly. because of the crisis, Wednesday morning.

However, the municipal chief doctor and the representatives of the FHI, a doctor and a nurse from the infection control thematic area, have not found reasons to implement measures in the institution.

All infected

The 23 residents of the institution have been infected with corona and nine have died, the last a 91-year-old woman.

The municipal superintendent claims one of the remaining residents today moved out. This means that there are 13 elderly people left in the institution, of which eight are still infected with covid-19.

– None of those infected currently have severe or life-threatening symptoms, says Chief Physician Jensen.

On Tuesday, 23 of those who worked at Villa Skaar Valstad were also registered with the corona infection. On Wednesday, three more positive results were received. What FHI professionals will now try to find out is how the first of the institution’s patients got infected.

The municipal chief physician and the two FHI representatives will carry out a similar inspection at the Villberg municipal institution for the elderly on Wednesday afternoon, and FHI, according to the municipal chief physician, will present a report on conditions in Eidsvoll before the weekend.

This is the company

The crisis-hit Villa Skaar Valstad institution for the elderly in Eidsvoll is run by the private company Villa Skaar, based in Sylling, Lier.

The company says on its website that it was established in 1958 and had at most eleven nursing homes with staff accommodation in and around Oslo.

In 2004, the municipality of Oslo terminated the agreement with the private company and bought some of the institutions. Then there was a reorganization of the business to Villa Skaar and the fourth generation family, led by Richard Skaar Thorsrud, took over the company, which he currently runs.

The company writes on its website that seven institutions currently run. One of the institutions is located in Oslo, Sollerud, the others in municipalities of the former Buskerud and Akershus.

Asked for expert help

– We often dedicate ourselves to this type of outbreak, as a help. First, we will review everything. What does the Routine Nursing Home have and what does it look like there. Then we will see if we can offer more advice to help the situation, FHI chief physician Miriam Sare tells Romerikes Blad.

It was Eidsvoll municipal chief physician Carl Magnus Jensen who asked FHI experts for guidance on infection control. FHI has two experts, writes the newspaper.

The Villa Skaar Valstad nursing home in Eidsvoll had its ninth death in two weeks on Tuesday.

The surrogate believes the nursing home failed to meet infection control standards in several areas, that surrogates received inadequate training and had to wear infection coats that did not fit. The person in question experienced that the nursing home did not take responsibility when notified, and the surrogate, who had previously worked in crown positions elsewhere, decided not to bring any more guards at the nursing home.

Villa Skaar CEO Richard Skaar Thorsrud says they take the information very seriously and will review incidents during the relevant watch period.

The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision confirms to the newspaper that they have received a notification from the alternate and that they will make an assessment of the case after receiving more information.
