Corona infection in Bergen – Very high number

In Bergen, the infection pressure reaches 86.3 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. In comparison, the National Institute of Public Health recommends including in the red list countries and regions that exceed 20 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. However, health authorities believe that the spread of the infection is controlled.

Subject director Frode Forland at FHI says the outbreaks may be primarily related to parties in student settings in Bergen. The Norwegian School of Management (NHH) in particular has been affected by 117 infected students.

Bergen has taken action and implemented a number of measures. Previously, they have asked for self-imposed quarantine after party, while on Friday they affirm that they have increased the testing and hotel capacity.

– It seems that the students have understood that this is a regrettable situation and they regret what happened. The outbreak led to the closure of several campuses for all students. In that sense, we hope this can be a lesson that it is important to adhere to the rules that have been recommended, Forland tells Dagbladet.

Infectious pressure

– What do you think of an infection pressure higher than 80?

– It’s a very high number. At the same time, we do not see this as uncontrolled spread as long as we know where it is coming from, and that we can trace cases to the source of infection and know the cause of the local outbreak. Therefore, there is no widespread spread of the infection in Bergen.

On Friday afternoon, Bergensavisen reported that a resident of the Domkirkehjemmet nursing home in Bergen had been infected. In a press release, the asylum affirms that the management has implemented the necessary measures to follow up the infected, other residents and employees of the ward.

Forland says that we must be vigilant so that the infection can spread to other parts of society as well. Health Director Bjørn Guldvog confirms that there is a risk of this happening.

– risky

– I have experience that you have a good overview of the situation, but of course there is a certain risk that this will spread to other parts of the population. I think they are able to find the infection quickly so within a certain framework they are in control, but it is not completely safe until all infection routes have been found, Guldvog tells Dagbladet.

He acknowledges that the infection pressure we see in Bergen is risky.

– Yes, it is risky. But in general, the spread of the infection occurs among students, where the vast majority have relatively mild symptoms. I sincerely hope it stays that way and is quickly removed.
