Contagion record in Trondheim: considering adjusting further

[ad_1]

In the last 24 hours, there have been 64 new cases of infection in Trondheim, municipal director Morten Wolden informs Dagbladet.

– It’s a new record with a good margin. That’s 20 more than the maximum before and that’s a very high number for us.

– It’s very serious, says Wolden.

However, he emphasizes that the situation is not “all black.”

– Due to those who are now registered as infected, many are close contacts of previously infected, which means that many have already been quarantined. We have by no means lost control.

Refuses to provide close contacts

The municipality of Trondheim states that 54 of the new cases have known routes of infection, while the others are being clarified. However, two of them refuse to tell the infection tracking team who they have been in contact with, something the municipality is taking seriously.

In a press release, the municipality emphasizes that everyone must follow the instructions given by the infection control office.

A recurring theme among those infected is that they have participated in pre-Christmas socializing, either in a private context or outdoors.

Assessment of the Oslo measures

Although the municipality has implemented several measures recently, Christmas has offered a wide spread of the infection.

On Saturday, among other things, a bar stop was introduced starting at 10 p.m. and social contacts beyond the home and contacts in work situations will be limited to 10 a week.

On Monday morning, the municipality had meetings about the situation. Health and wellness director Helge Garåsen writes in an SMS to Dagbladet that the rules may need to be further tightened.

– Later today we will consider whether further measures should be implemented, he writes.

However, Wolden believes it is too early to take further action.

– Not two days have passed since the new measures were implemented, so we hope they will take effect. We will have a crisis management meeting later today to review the overall situation, and we will bring that discussion to the presidency tomorrow, says Wolden.

He says the municipality has a package of measures that is ready to be implemented if the situation gets out of control.

– Regulations in Oslo are what may become relevant if we cannot stop the infection now, says the municipal director.

– Scary

Already on Christmas Eve, the director of health and welfare Garåsen announced an alarming fact, after several cases of contagion could be linked to parties in the city.

– The environment we have discovered are people in the age group of 20 to 50 who participate in extensive social interaction and have been doing so over time, he told Dagbladet.

– Our findings are alarming and give reason to seriously consider whether a more extensive closure will be introduced in Trondheim this Christmas.

The municipality has also discovered environments that planned extensive social contact during the holidays, as well as people who did not show up for tests.

On Monday morning, the municipality had a meeting with the police about the situation. The municipality has also chosen to report a person it knew was infected, broke the isolation obligation and participated in several companies.

However, according to police, there have been quiet days lately.

– There are very few reports of uncontrolled parties and the police say it is abnormally quiet. So that probably means there are some who find it smart to party in the middle of a pandemic. We take it seriously, because it endangers the health of other people.

– worried

Wolden is worried about the future.

– Christmas is not over and the middle of Christmas is here. Therefore, we have strongly advocated limiting as few contacts as possible.

In the new year, around 25,000 will also return to study in Trondheim. Around 800 international students are also expected.

– It makes the situation more confusing and we are concerned about the situation, says Wolden.
