Closes Seven Municipalities in Denmark After Spreading Mink Coronavirus to Humans – NRK Urix – Foreign News & Documentaries

There are seven municipalities with a total of 280,000 inhabitants that must now prepare for what Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen describes as a real shutdown.

This includes Frederikshavn, where a large part of the ferry traffic goes to and from Norway.

The reason is that a mutation of the coronavirus has spread from mink to humans.

Promises aid packages

Theaters, cinemas and libraries and all other leisure activities are now closed. Grades 5-8 at the school will be enrolled at home, while the other students will continue to attend school.

– Of course, we will follow this with aid packages, says Fredriksen, who says that these must, first and foremost, ensure that jobs are maintained.

– All inhabitants of the seven municipalities are encouraged to take the test, says the Prime Minister.

15 million minks must be slaughtered

– This requires the rest of Denmark to now support North Jutland, the Danish prime minister said at a press conference on Thursday.

It also encourages residents of northern Jutland municipalities to stay home and not take unnecessary trips.

All public transportation in the seven municipalities is temporarily stopped, except for school buses.

There are around 15 million minks scattered on farms around Denmark, but the concentration of mink farms is particularly large in North Jutland.

Now all of these animals must be euthanized at the same time that the mutation from animals to humans can hinder the development of a Covid-19 vaccine for humans.
