– Infectious wave two hits us hard in Moss. We have never had infection rates as high as now. It is a very demanding situation we are in, says Mayor Hanne Tollerud (Labor).

A week ago, the Township of Moss introduced strict corona measures to stop a severe corona outbreak. So far, the infection trend has not been reversed.

The mayor asks citizens to take responsibility.

Yes, we are tired of the crown and tired of letting the crown limit us. We are tired of quarantine, antibac and infection control talks. Still, we must collect ourselves. We will take care of each other by keeping our distance and being as small as possible together. Each of us has a responsibility to reduce the number of infections.

In the last three days, a total of 56 people in the Østfold municipality have been diagnosed with the infection. In the last two weeks, the municipality has had 335 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

However, the municipality will not introduce even more stringent measures.

– These figures are scary and I understand that there are many who want even stricter measures. But I want to emphasize that the municipality of Moss, through the regulation that went into effect on December 1, has implemented very strict measures. And while it may sound passive to some, it is too early to see any effect of these measures after less than a week, says municipal chief physician Kristian Krogshus.

Ask the pub guests to try themselves

This summer, the township closed a pub in Moss when too many people showed up at an event. The pub is now central to the new outbreak.

– We recommend that those who were in the Fish Bazaar between November 25 and 29 get tested and quarantined. This is especially true if they have symptoms of infection, Krogshus says.

So far, 17 people who have worked at the bar or visited the bar have been found to have been infected. The venue has been closed for the past week, but the municipality still encourages people who were there in the days leading up to closure to have a very low threshold to test themselves.

– It is serious that so many are infected in the pub. This shows that you can unfortunately also get infected in nightclubs, says Krogshus.

This is the second time in four months that this particular pub has received attention regarding crown buds.

In July, there was also a wave of contagion in the city. Then up to 300 people gathered for a singing performance with Plumbo’s Lars Erik Blokkhus, VG wrote. The place was closed for the day.

The municipal chief told the newspaper that there were 50 percent more guests than allowed. People didn’t keep a good enough distance either.

Inaugurated with new owners

A few days later, the nightclub reopened, but then with new owners. In an interview with local newspaper Moss Avis, new owner Ralph Bakken said they had a dialogue with the municipality around the opening and they need to be careful about infection control.

– We cannot add anything to the coincidences, at least not as the situation is in the city of Moss now. We almost have to be too strict considering what has happened, Bakken said then.

On Sunday, Bakken confirmed to NRK that there has been an infection at the site. He stressed that he, as the new owner, took over the operation on August 1, but did not want to say more about the situation in which they have ended.

Quarantine breach notifications

The municipality has received several reports of people breaking quarantine and isolation.

Moss Police Chief Henning Dalby says police prioritize these cases.

– And assignments related to parties and private events. There, both the participants and the organizer can be held responsible. As a general rule, we report isolation and quarantine violations, Dalby says.

Quarantine violations can be fined up to NOK 20,000.

On Wednesday, the municipality will have a meeting with the commercial centers of the city. The mayor asks people to come in through the door if there are too many people in the shops.

– We can’t all act at the same time. Then it becomes too narrow. So we run the risk of the infection spreading, even if we wear a bandage and use antibac. Shopping centers and stores have a responsibility, but so do you, says Tollerud.
