Children Finds In Karmøy Against Shipwrecks Outside France – NRK Rogaland – Local News, TV and Radio

The remains of a small boy who washed ashore at Karmøy were found last Friday.

Police believe the remains have been at sea for a few months.

– We know the information about the shipwreck off France. Of course, this is a hypothesis to follow. But it’s too early to wrap up, says Police Superintendent Linn Tove Strand at the Karmøy Sheriff’s Office.

The shipwreck occurred in the English Channel on October 27.

The Kurdish family was heading from the northern French port city of Dunkirk with a small boat in bad weather.

They left Iran in early August. With the help of human traffickers, the family was transported across Turkey and Italy before finally ending up in a refugee camp in the northern French city.

The whole trip had cost them 24,000 euros and now they were on their way to seek happiness in England.

Bad weather conditions

According to the BBC, there were several who had warned the family not to join the barely five meter long boat crossing the channel with the strong wind and high waves.

A few miles in the open sea it went wrong. The boat began to drink water. Rasoul Iran-Nejad (35), his wife Shiva Mohammad Panahi (35), as well as sons Anita (9), Armin (6) and Artin (1) died when the boat sank and collapsed.

The four oldest were found, but 15-month-old Artin wandered away, according to eyewitnesses.

Will try to get the DNA

According to Police Superintendent Linn Tove Strand, the boy will undergo an autopsy at the Gade Institute in Bergen tomorrow morning.

– The police will be present during the autopsy. Based on this, we hope to find the cause of death and identity, among other things through the DNA profile. But we are prepared for the fact that it can take a long time, often weeks and months, to establish a secure identity for the person in question, Strand says.
