Chaos in much of the country:

[ad_1]

Strong winds and snow make driving conditions difficult. There are also strong winds along the coast in several places:

  • In Agder, the police ask people to check boat moorings and tie up loose objects.
  • There are many slippery roads in eastern Norway, a car hit the guardrail on the E6 while a truck got stuck on the Rv52 Hemsedal.
  • Several ferry connections along the entire coastline have been canceled and the mountain passes are either closed or have column traffic. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration updates all traffic reports here on an ongoing basis.
  • The Arendal line closes between Nelaug and Arendal after a tree flew over the airline. BaneNor is working on the case.

– Postpone the trip

There are usually a lot of people on the roads during Christmas, but now travelers are asked to think twice.

A yellow warning has been issued for strong gusts in southern Norway and parts of eastern Norway, gusts of between 15 and 25 m / s are expected.

In addition, the snow line descends about 400 meters.

– In addition to the large amounts of precipitation, half a meter of snow is expected to arrive during the day, he says.

If you plan to travel up the mountain today or in the next few days, Aabrekk has a recommendation for you:

– Postpone the trip. Stay up to date and wait until the weather improves, she says.

An avalanche warning has also been issued in various places in the country, in Sunnmøre the avalanche risk has been set at the orange level. See the full list varsom.no.

Extremely bad weather

In southern Norway, all you have to do is prepare for inclement weather.

– You can expect very strong winds. Snow and high winds also present challenges on mountain passes, says Aabrekk.

She says a lot of precipitation is expected, especially in Agder, Telemark, Viken and partly Innlandet.

The background to the storm is a clear storm center off Scotland.

This low pressure gives rise to strong winds from the southeast that reach much of the country.

Softer in western Norway

Although it will be milder in western Norway, some precipitation is still expected, especially in Bergen and the south.

From Trøndelag and to the north, you can expect sea winds. East of Finnmark, a cool breeze can blow. Further west in Finnmark and south in Nordland there will be a strong and stiff gale.

– Although it will blow a lot, there will not be much precipitation in northern Norway today and in the next few days, says Aabrekk.

– But Finnmark will still be very cold, he says.

Large temperature differences

On the night of the third day of Christmas, it was measured minus 43.3 degrees in Karasjok, while in Rogaland it was measured plus 7 degrees. There is a 50 degree difference in temperature.

– But it’s not beyond that it’s so cold in the north and relatively mild in the south at the moment. The temperature difference tells a bit about how far out of the country we live, Storm meteorologist Mariann Aabrekk tells TV 2.

Due to the low temperature combined with the sea winds in northern Norway, there is a danger of ice formation on moored boats.
