On Thursday afternoon, emergency services were notified of a fire on a catamaran that was in the sea west of the island Nordre Søster off Fredrikstad in Østfold.

There were four people on board. At 4:43 p.m., the police reported that all had been evacuated unharmed from the boat.

– There has been a fire on board a ship with four people on board. They have announced a Mayday and we have received and sent a number of resources, said rescue leader Per Hognaland at the NRK Main Rescue Center.

The catamaran was located west of the island Nordre Søster in the Oslo fjord.

A lifeboat, a pilot boat and a rescue helicopter quickly arrived at the scene. The crew even put out the fire on board.

The MS “Brim” catamaran is a hybrid boat, which means that it can run on both battery and diesel. Hot battery operation should be the cause of the fire.

The 24 meter long catamaran has capacity for 146 passengers. He left Fredrikstad early today.

There was a gale in the area when the emergency message arrived.

At around 6pm, the Main Rescue Center announced that the ship was towed to Jarlsø in Vestfold by the Rescue Company.
