Halloween is more important than Christmas Eve
Every year since 2012, she and her family have invited terrified guests to their haunted house in Enebakk. Last year, almost 1,700 visitors passed.
– We spent a whole year planning the day. There has been tremendous interest, and it has also happened that people have come from Bergen and Kristiansand to experience the horror house, Glenster tells VG.
– You have spent a lot of resources and time
Due to the corona pandemic, this year they have decided to cancel the event. It’s a decision that fell on Glenster’s chest.
– We realized that it was difficult to run the event according to current infection control rules, so we decided to cancel everything, he says.
– I have invested so much time, energy and resources in planning and implementing this, so it is very sad not to be able to give people a fun experience, but we hope and believe it will be possible to implement it in 2021, he adds.
FHI with Halloween tips
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health has put together a series of tips on how to run the celebration in a way that protects infection control.
– As with all other events and social gatherings at this time, it is especially important that no patient participates and that everyone remembers good hand hygiene and coughing along the way, says FHI chief physician Margrethe Greve-Isdahl in a press release.
It is possible to complete trick or treating rounds as long as you follow the tips below:
- Both those who knock and those who open the door must be healthy.
- Go in small groups and with those you are with as usual.
- Stay away from other groups if there is a queue outside some houses.
- The one who opens the door is the one who distributes candy. Remember to wash your hands or use a sausage spoon / tongs.
- Wait to eat the candy until the round is over and you have washed / sprayed your hands.
- Don’t share candy.
- Feel free to take an adult with you on the round – they can ensure both infection control and traffic safety in the dark.
– The purpose is to reduce the number of contacts to reduce the possibility of spreading the infection and to contribute to simpler infection monitoring work for the municipality if necessary, says Greve-Isdahl.
Celebrating with friends and horror movies
Glenster is positive about the Halloween advice FHI has issued.
– It’s clear when FHI comes out with this call, there are thorough professional evaluations behind the decision, he says.
