Brede Aasen, director of the Helse Bergen psychiatric clinic, confirms to BT that the man who died was voluntarily admitted to them.

He was discharged on Monday, the same day as the police operation.

– When a patient has been admitted and discharged, discharge must be justifiable. That is also our starting point in this case. Since the post-discharge incident is very serious, we review it routinely as part of our internal control. The county governor does the same, says Aasen.

Four policemen were involved in the shooting incident that killed the man. It is not known if it was an official who fired all the shots, or if several officials fired the shots.

– Four policemen were involved in the incident itself. Several shots were fired, and the actions took place in the hallway and at the front door of the deceased’s apartment, the regional leader of the Special Unit, Ellen Eikeseth Mjøs, confirms to BA.

The special unit confirmed Wednesday morning that there was no hostage situation before the police operation.

– The deceased was alone and we have no evidence that other civilians were involved, Mjøs tells BA.

It was BT who first reported that the 39-year-old man who died after being shot by police at the Ibsens gate in Bergen on Monday night was alone in the apartment.
