Braut Haaland broke Mbappé record after new Champions double

(Borussia Dortmund – Club Brugge 3-0) Erling Braut Haaland (20) did what he “always” did. Two goals from the Norwegian ensured a new record night.

With the first goal of the game, he became the youngest player of all time to reach 15 goals in the Champions League. Before tonight’s game, Kylian Mbappé was the youngest player to have reached 15 goals, something he accomplished against Club Brugge last year. The Frenchman was then 20 years, 10 months and 2 days old, and he had to see that Braut Haaland improved the record in half a year.

The Norwegian is currently 20 years, 4 months and 3 days old, and it is more impressive that he has achieved it in just twelve games. Previously, Roberto Soldado and Ruud van Nistelrooy had used the fewest matches to reach 15 goals, but 19 matches had passed by comparison.

The Norwegian himself published a post on Instagram after the match, with a fairly simple and clear text:

Braut Haaland is also the fastest to reach ten goals in the Champions League, something he did in seven games, four games faster than anyone.

It is especially against Belgian teams that the Norwegian has replaced, with eight goals in four games (two games against Genk and two against Club Brugge).

After four games in the group stage, Braut Haaland has six goals in the Champions League, making him the top scorer this season. The Norwegian has scored an impressive 17 goals in 12 games in all tournaments this season.

– As a team, we must be prepared to stop him, not just one player. He is strong, fast and his highest quality is his hunger for goals. “I remember being unhappy after missing one of eight shots during warm-up, Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement told UEFA before kickoff.

Still, it shouldn’t take Braut Haaland more than 70 seconds to get to the first chance of the match, but the 18-meter shot went just outside of Simon Mignolet’s goal.

At 18 minutes, the Norwegian had a new opportunity, and this time he was not wrong. Alone with Simon Mignolet, he saw just the necessary gap between the goalkeeper and the nearest corner. The shot escaped over the crossbar and into the goal, putting Dortmund ahead.

In the last minute of the round came the great climax of the match. On a free kick from 20 meters, Jadon Sancho sent the ball very well over the barrier and directly to the crossbar. A dream goal from the Englishman, which gave the home team a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Braut Haaland again had a couple of chances early in the second half, before the goal came after a quarter of an hour into the second half. From offside, Brugge captain Ruud Vormer played it for free, and then the Norwegian didn’t mind asking. From five to six meters he scored his second goal of the day, through Mignolet’s fingertips.

He also had a chance to score his third of the day, but had to “settle” for two goals when he was substituted in the 82nd minute.

With tonight’s 3-0 win, Borussia Dortmund top Group F, one point ahead of Lazio and five points ahead of Club Brugge. There are two games left in the group stage.
