Georgia has long been a solid stronghold of the Republican Party. But now both Democratic candidates are leading ahead of next month’s Senate elections.

On Monday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said once again that Joe Biden received the most votes in the state.
– 34 days have passed since the elections on November 3. We have now counted the legal votes three times and the result has not changed, Raffensberger said.
He himself belongs to the Republican Party and voted for Donald Trump. But in recent weeks, he has repeatedly responded to allegations of election fraud by the outgoing president.
Biden won with around 12,000 votes. This is the first time in 28 years that the Democratic candidate has won in the state.
On Monday, another federal judge refused to prosecute a lawsuit that Trump’s lawyers served to cancel the Georgia election, The Hill wrote.
Give the Democrats a little hope
The fact that Biden has won the traditionally conservative state gives Democrats greater hope of gaining control in the Senate as well.
Both senators from Georgia are running for election. In the September elections, neither candidate obtained a clear majority. In both elections, the two with the most votes went into a “rematch” in early January.
Currently, there are 50 Republican senators and 48 Democrats. If it is 50 to 50, it is Vice President Kamala Harris who decides the regular votes.
On Monday, the fivethirtyeight website published an average of the latest polls. They show that the candidates of both Democrats have a narrow lead.
Democrat John Ossof has a 0.8 percent lead over incumbent Senator David Perdue. Pastor and Democrat Raphael Warnock leads with 2.2 percentage points over Senator Kelly Loeffler.

Trump can ruin his thing
Given how much polls have failed in the US elections in recent years, there are many reasons to take the numbers with a pinch of salt.
Many Republicans fear that President Trump’s zealous work to undermine confidence in the entire electoral system could cause many Republicans to choose to stay home on Election Day.
Some extremist Republicans have called for a boycott of the elections. On Saturday, Trump was at a large rally in the state and called for a vote.
Control of the Senate is very important. If Republicans win one of the Georgia Senate seats, they could block all of Joe Biden’s proposals.
If it’s 50-50 and the vice president has the casting vote on all decisions, it also means that Democrats can take the initiative in the Senate and on all committees.
Then they can set the agenda and decide which cases to consider.
With so much at stake, both Democrats and Republicans are gambling hard. According to The Hill, $ 329 million of ad space was purchased or reserved after Election Day in November. That is almost 2.9 billion NOK.
