Erling Braut Haaland hopes to have a new coach at Borussia Dortmund. Storavisen claims that the club already has a possible candidate ready.

The article is up to date!

On Sunday afternoon, several sources, including the leading German daily Bild, report that Lucien Favre (63) has finished at Borussia Dortmund.

The news has yet to be officially confirmed, but recently there have been several rumors that Haaland’s Swiss coach has lived dangerously after a series of weak results.

On Sunday, it all culminated in a mad 1-5 loss for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga game against VB Stuttgart.

Experts are not surprised

Former Werder Bremen star Rune Bratseth understands Dortmund’s management, if it is true that they now choose to look for a new manager.

– He’s swayed too much, Bratseth tells Nettavisen, pointing to the recent loss to Stuttgart as an example.

He believes that the Dortmund leadership has come to the conclusion that the team cannot step up to the end under Favre’s leadership.

– He does a decent job, but he can’t get them to titles. I think they have lost faith in the project in general. Being number two, three and four and playing the Champions League is fine, but it’s about taking trophies. There’s probably something there, says Bratseth.

Evid Bisgaard Sundet has followed German football for several years and comments on the Bundesliga for Viaplay. Nor is Borussia Dortmund’s decision very surprising.

– No, that game yesterday (against Stuttgart) was cruel. It must have killed him. There is a big gap to the top, and there have also been problems with Favre in the years he has been in Dortmund, and results have been lacking against a supposedly weaker resistance, Sundet tells Nettavisen.

– This is football. With the level of ambition the club has, they cannot lose 1-5 to Stuttgart at home. But again, Dortmund had led the series this season with slightly better margins and an injury-free Haaland. It’s brutal to be fired, says the Viaplay commentator.

– He was notified at the training ground

Bild further writes that Favre and the rest of the technical team received the message in training camp, less than 24 hours after the atrocious defeat in the Bundesliga.

Following the loss to Stuttgart, it was a clearly marked Favre who caught up with the press, following the fourth defeat in the national series this season.

– This was a disaster. Too big, big mistakes. We were very bad and this is unacceptable.

Favre joined Dortmund in 2018. Last season he led the team to second place in the Bundesliga and to victory in the German Super Cup.

This season, however, as mentioned, has not gone as many expected with the yellow dresses. After 11 league rounds, Dortmund is now in fifth place in the German first division, five points behind the league leaders Bayern Munich.

March’s favorite to take over

Bild, who has a habit of being very precise with his claims, claims that Jesse Marsch from Salzburg is the favorite to take over the now vacant coaching position.

The American manager has had brilliant results with the Austrian club and has known Haaland well before, having coached the Norwegian.

Both Bratseth and Bisgaard Sundet believe the American may be a sensible candidate for the job.

– Marsh represents modern German football. There’s a lot of pressure, it’s Klopp’s ball. There is something that has been pointed out as a problem for Favre, who has not played Klopp football, nor has he been Klopp at all. It may have been a bit too low-key, says Bisgaard Sundet.

However, Dortmund may have to wait a bit for a possible Marsch signing. Transition guru Fabrizio Romano claimed on Twitter Sunday that it will be Edin Terzic who will assume responsibility for coaching for the remainder of the season.
