Local newspaper The Tennessean reports an explosion in Nashville that was observed several miles away the morning after Christmas Eve.
The explosion occurred at 6:30 a.m. on 2nd Avenue in downtown Nashville. Local police. They also claim that the explosion is related to a vehicle.
– It appears to be a deliberate act. Police are closing streets in the city center while the investigation continues, writes Metro Nashville Police Department on Twitter.
During a press conference, police claim that three people have been sent to hospital in connection with the incident, but without serious injuries, according to News Channel 5.
Several users on Twitter post images of the incident where open flames, thick smoke and damage to nearby buildings can be seen.
– There has been an incident with an explosion involved. This is an ongoing incident. The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department are on site. There are no further details to give at this time, the Nashville Fire Department said, according to Fox 17.
The fire brigade is said to have asked nearby people to move at least two blocks away from the scene due to concerns that there could be more explosions, according to News Channel 5.
The owner of the Nashville Downtown Hostel tells The Tennessean that they have evacuated all of their guests, after receiving reports of a “loud bang” on the streets outside.
Journalist Cameron Taylor of the WSMV news channel report on Twitter that the police sent a bomb squad to the scene. It is not yet known what caused the explosion.
