Square Enix has announced that the next major Final Fantasy XIV update will be delayed due to the ongoing coronavirua pandemic.
The next 5.3 update was originally due for release in mid-June, but now the publisher estimates that it will likely be delayed for about a month. However, a specific time frame is not yet available.
According to Square Enix, it was only until the studio received the previous 5.25 update on the port in time. At the time, several of the employees had already been asked to stay home and were able to complete the upgrade by working from home.
Maintains servers from home
In Tokyo, where the Final Fantasy XIV team is located, authorities have formally declared an emergency, which will have major consequences for further work on the game.
The study writes that the game’s servers are now maintained from home and that the game will continue to work as before, but it may take longer than usual to fix the bugs.
Update 5.3 is the next major update in the Shadowbringers cycle. There are still few details on what exactly the update contains, but Square Enix stated on its forum last year that its goal is to make the main game more “compact” with the update.
