Biden’s tactics can go down the drain. The legal profile could be Trump’s new hope for four new years in the White House.

WASHINGTON (Aftenposten): For months, Democrats have tried to make the election a referendum on Donald Trump. Now, a conservative lawyer can become the profile of the elections.

When Donald Trump’s election rally ended in Minnesota on Friday, he learned of the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

– Wow, a surprised president said first. Then he praised the Supreme Court Justice as a wonderful man.

Decided by one of five

Politically, however, Ginsburg was far from Trump. Now you can suggest its successor. Despite the pandemic and an economic blow, death has the potential to play a dominant role in the election campaign.

In the 2016 elections, the election of judges to the Supreme Court was the most important issue for every fifth voter. In particular, Trump voters thought this was important.

Democrats, for their part, have tried to convince the electoral campaign of Trump’s suitability as president. The idea is that voters are unhappy with your efforts, especially not against the coronavirus.

If the election campaign is about the Supreme Court instead, this strategy will be thwarted.

Trump will act fast, woman suggests

Who Trump is targeting may have an effect on some groups of voters. A judge with a clear Christian background can guarantee the support of religious voters. This is especially true for those who hope to have their right to self-determined abortion removed.

Trump has a list of names he promises to choose from. This is in contrast to what previous presidents have done.

On Saturday afternoon local time, Trump said he hopes to nominate a judge next week.

“I will make my decision soon,” he told White House reporters, praising Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa.

Later that night, he told his followers in North Carolina that it would be a woman.

Amy Coney Barrett (48 years old)

Barrett graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He has been an assistant to conservative referee legend Antonin Scalia. He is now a judge in a federal appeals court. It was approved by the Senate in 2017 for that position with 55 to 42 votes.

Opponents of abortion hope that Catholic believers will remove the right to self-determined abortion. She herself has said that she believes that the basic right will remain. On the other hand, she is not sure who will pay.

Barrett and her husband have seven children, two of whom have been adopted from Haiti. It is said that she was in Trump’s last fight when Brett Kavanaugh was nominated in 2018.

Barbara Lagoa (52)

Lagoa is from Miami, of Cuban origin and studied at Columbia University in New York.

In November of last year, the Senate approved her as a judge in an appeals court. 80 senators voted in favor. Only 15 voted against. This came at the same time as the highly divisive Supreme Court investigation against President Trump.

The strong turnout could tempt Trump to put Lagoa at the top of his list. She was added to Trump’s list this fall.

Kate Comerford Todd (45 years old)

The White House attorney was added to Trump’s latest list of candidates.

She graduated from Harvard and lives with her husband and four children in Virginia. In addition to being a partner in one of the largest law firms in the capital, she has been a professor at the prestigious George Washington and Cornell universities.

Todd, like the other favorite favorites, is a Catholic.

Allison Jones running (38)

Rushing is from North Carolina and graduated in law in 2007 from Duke University. She is now a judge in a federal appeals court after being nominated by Senator Thom Tillis.

The nomination was controversial. The criticism was that he had worked for a conservative Christian organization. The Southern Poverty Law Center believes it is an alleged “hate group” because of its view of homosexuals. Rushing has said he never saw signs of anything like this in the group.

If Rushing were nominated and approved, she could remain on the Supreme Court for a long time due to her young age. The judges sit until they die or even decide to resign.

Amul Thapar (51)

If Trump hasn’t chosen a woman yet, Thapar is mentioned as an attractive candidate. He was born in Michigan and raised in Ohio and is the son of immigrants from India. He has been on Trump’s list of judges since 2016 and was interviewed by Trump himself when Kavanaugh was elected.

He graduated from UC Berkeley and is now a judge in a federal appeals court. Thapar is known for writing judgments in a simple and popular style.

He can be tough on criminals and make a name for himself when an 86-year-old nun was sentenced to 35 months in prison for vandalism at a nuclear power plant.

She has converted to Catholicism and lives in Kentucky, where she married a real estate agent. They have three children.
