– We will issue a warning with a large exclamation point against these tablets, because we fear that they could easily lead to an overdose, especially in combination with other drugs, says the head of the Bergen central police station, Lars Morten Lohne.
On Friday, the Police West web patrol came out on Facebook with a photo and description of the tablets, which is called Xalol and it should have a calming and anxiolytic effect.
The case was first reported by Bergens Tidende.
Proven by teen deaths
The background to the warning is three overdoses in two days among young people just under 18 years old. A 17-year-old is dead.
Everyone must be connected to the same environment in the center of Bergen, and the tablets must be found in relation to several or all overdoses.
Lohne notes that a connection between the tablets and the overdose has yet to be established.
But we fear there may be a connection, and now we are investigating that, says the police chief.
Three died in Tromsø
The tablets were described as “baptism of death” after three men in their 20s in Tromsø died of an overdose of Ksalol in November. The leader of the investigation, Yngve Myrvoll, in the Troms police district, told NRK that this type of tablet is in circulation throughout the country.
The Bergen police issued the warning based on the prehistory in the north and the recent overdoses in Bergen.
Fear that the tablets will spread
– It is new to us that these tablets are in this youthful environment. We fear that these are a large number of tablets and that they may have spread to various environments. Lohne says.
– Now we are entering a weekend, and that is why we want to warn both young people and their families that these tablets are in circulation and that it is not smart to use them. We have no one to lose, says the chief of police.
