Bergen city council leader expects immediate effect of crown measures

– Today’s figures follow the trend of the last few days and are stably high, says Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor) at a press conference on Monday afternoon.

At a press conference he assured that in the last 24 hours there have been 32 new corona infections in the municipality. Therefore, a total of 1,220 infected people have been registered in Bergen since the beginning of the pandemic.

I hope to see the effect of the action.

On Tuesday last week, the Bergen municipality introduced a series of measures in hopes of limiting the strong outbreak of infection that has hit the city recently. This included a ban on private gatherings of more than ten people. The public event limit was lowered from 200 to 50 people, and restaurants and bars were required to operate with attendance lists.

In the next few days, we expect to see an effect from the measures we took on Tuesday of last week. And if the numbers go down, it may still be enough, but it’s too early to say yet, Valhammer says.

– Various published sprints

The city council leader notes that several have said that the crown eruption is not a sprint, but a marathon.

– But the truth is that corona is a marathon with sprints, and in Bergen we are in a sprint this week. We expect the sprint to be as short as possible, but we depend on everyone participating so we can get to the finish line quickly, says Valhammer.

– If everyone contributes, then we can get by with a ten-day sprint, which is what we have planned, he says.

Two of those infected are students at the Norwegian School of Management. Twelve of those infected are over 40 and three are over 60, said health advisor Beate Husa (KrF) at the press conference.
