– Can’t you see that Bella is bleeding on her face! my wife called me when I entered the kennel, Tor Mikalsen tells Dagbladet.

He was on his way with food for the gray elk dog, when he discovered that she was clearly injured.

– I didn’t understand what had happened, but I quickly discovered that I was in great pain. It was almost impossible to wash off the blood, he choked and walked away from me.

Mysterious damage

Bella (7) lives on a heated dog farm just outside Tor and Hilde’s house in Brønnøysund. What had been hours since the cook said good night from Thursday to Friday morning, seemed mysterious to the owners. On Facebook, they now ask that witnesses have seen something that can explain the damage in more detail.

– I had a lot of pain. So the trip went to the vet. There she was anesthetized and shaved, and then the hole in her head came into view, Mikalsen says.

He is an avid hunter himself and is familiar with ammunition and bullet holes. For years he has been an active shooter for the volunteer shooting service.

– The hole, which was about four millimeters long, was cleaned with salt water and antibiotics. The damage to the left eye showed what likely came from a 4.5mm bullet from an airgun. Fortunately, he was not hit in the eye, it could have fatal consequences, says Mikalsen.

The case has been reviewed

According to the father of the food, the vet immediately thought that Bella (7) must have bitten something.

– I looked for sharp objects in the kennel, but found nothing.

Despite the treatment, Bella continued to show signs of pain. Thus, the trip again went to the vet and X-rays were taken.

They continued to search for an answer to what might have caused the injury, and when Tor Mikalsen shook his dog’s bed on Sunday, he found an air rifle bullet.

– What we suspect is that the dog has been injured by air guns. Either someone shot him on purpose or it happened by accident. We are very interested in receiving suggestions about the case, says Police Inspector Linda Rømma in the Nordland Police District.

The police confirm to Dagbladet that the case has been reported.

– I have no one whom I can suspect has done something so painful. We live in a housing association full of single family houses, Bella is 7 years old and we have never received a single complaint about her, says Mikalsen.

Since the incident, Bella has been allowed to live inside the house and remains there, despite her wife’s allergy.

– Yes, now we want it inside. Fortunately, this does not seem to have hurt his temper.
