The Swedish employee at the Brønnøysund air ambulance base tested positive for the coronavirus after his arrival in Norway. Test number two was also positive.
The Swedish employee arrived in Norway on Wednesday. On Thursday, Babcock confirmed to NRK that the person in question flew from Oslo to Brønnøysund before the test result was ready.
On Friday, municipal chief physician Even Thorkildsen in Brønnøy informed the channel that the pilot also tested positive in the second corona test.
Babcock, which operates the ambulance planes in Norway, is working full-time to be able to reopen the base in Brønnøysund as soon as possible, and the company has hired a cleaning agency that began washing up on Friday night.
– Our base is still considered contaminated. This means there may be infection there, COO Hilde Sjurelv at Babcock tells NRK.
– This means that those who are in quarantine are staying in hotels and the base is still closed, he adds.
According to Sjurelv, the base can be opened once washed. Additionally, Babcock is working to recruit other personnel to operate the base.
Øyvind Juell, executive director of the Air Ambulance Service, tells NRK that all other air ambulance services are on standby and available.
At the moment, patients in Helgeland have to be picked up on another plane from Oslo, Bodø, Ålesund or Tromsø. Also, there is an ambulance helicopter in Brønnøysund. (NTB)
