In the revised national budget 2020, Avinor was strengthened by NOK 5 billion.

– It was very gratifying that Avinor’s formal decision was made. Now we continue with the construction plans for the new terminal in Tromsø. It is very good, says airport manager Ivar Helsing Schrøen to NRK.

The background for development has been discontinued infrastructure and great growth, especially in tourist traffic to Tromsø.

In addition to the development project, there are also a number of other projects that are now being implemented at airports during 2020. The projects have a framework of approx. NOK 35-40 million.

– Important to start the wheels

In February, Avinor’s board of directors gave the green light to expand Tromsø airport, but the crown crisis put an end to this.

– It is important that the wheels work again. And a project of this size helps to contribute in the first place, says Schrøen.

– It shows that there is hope and that in the future one should return to where one was.

A new 10,000-square-meter terminal will be built, with a new departure hall, check-in area, luggage room, and sorting room. A new flexible international terminal will also be established where streets can be switched between home and abroad. In addition, there are new commercial areas.
