The images of how the London police handled yesterday the mourners who are remembered for killing Sarah Everard (33), have turned the British red.
Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, is now asking London Police Chief Cressida Dick to consider her own position, Sky News reports.
– This was a violent tactical and moral error on the part of the police. So we ask you to consider your leadership of the police service and whether you can continue to be trusted by millions of women in London, whom you have a responsibility to protect, writes Davey in a letter to the chief of police.
Ask the chief of police to explain.
Labor leader Keir Starmer also criticizes the handling of the police during yesterday’s memorial service. He describes the scenes that took place in London as “deeply disturbing.”
“This was not the way to handle the demonstration,” Starmer said in a statement.
He is supported by his party colleague Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London. Khan claims that he has been in contact with Police Chief Dick and asked for an explanation.
Interior Minister Priti Patel has also asked Dick to account for yesterday’s incidents, according to Sky News.
Hundreds gathered
The group Reclaim These Streets canceled the official markings in memory of the murdered Everard (33), which should have taken place yesterday in various places in London.
The reason was coronary restrictions.
However, hundreds of people showed up in Clapham, London, where Everard disappeared last week, to show their disgust at the murder. London police were also present with a large presence, calling on the crowd to disband.
When the participants refused, the police used force to break the markings. Photos and videos from the site show that several people were put on the ground and forcibly handcuffed.
The police reported in the morning hours of Sunday that they arrested four people.

Police: «Necessary»
In a statement Sunday morning, the police defend their own driving and call it “necessary.”
“Hundreds of people were close together, posing a real risk of easily getting infected with covid-19,” said Helen Ball, the London police chief.
Deputy Chief Bell also notes that the police repeatedly asked the crowd for a long time to disband. When the participants in the marking did not listen to the police order, they took action.
– The police must act to secure people, that is the only thing responsible. The pandemic is not over and crowds of participants from all over London and elsewhere are still not safe, says Bell.
Police charged with murder
Everard disappeared last week on his way home after visiting a friend in the Clapham area.
Earlier this week, the remains of a person were found in Kent, southeast of the capital London, and a 48-year-old police officer was arrested on suspicion of having something to do with the crime.
On Friday, police confirmed that the remains belonged to Everard and that the 33-year-old man had been killed.
The 48-year-old police officer has been taken into custody and charged with kidnapping and killing Everard.
