Ask people to collect their cars

There has been a major water leak at Sagene in Oslo on Sunday morning.

– The leak covers the roadway at the site. It’s an extensive leak, operations manager Per Ivar Iversen tells Dagbladet just before 07:00.

Closed water for many

It’s cold in the capital right now, and it is likely to freeze relatively quickly, Iversen says.

– It can get slippery in here eventually. The water flows into the center, but so far there aren’t many closed roads, he says.

On Twitter, the police urge people to be careful in the area.

The Oslo Municipality Water and Sewerage Authority has shut down water supplies in various directions in the area as a result of the leak. The municipality’s website indicates that the water will be closed until 11 p.m. Sunday, but the hotline informs Dagbladet that they “have no idea” how long it will be closed. There is also no general description of how many addresses in the area are affected.

Encouraged to check cars

Just after 8 a.m., Operations Manager Line Skott says the water is starting to wane.

– The bucket from which the water comes has been found. But we’re still there and scattering so the water doesn’t freeze and get very slippery, says Skott.

Later, the police encourage everyone who has parked cars at Darres ‘gate and Hauchs’ gate to search the cars.

– Those who are exposed to the flow of water should move. The amount of water combined with the cold weather now poses the danger of cars freezing, police write on Twitter.

At 9.20 a.m., the police are still on the scene and manually directing traffic, Skott says.
