The 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Nearby, the police found the two comrades. They were in shock, but almost completely unscathed physically. All three had driven a minibus in Bandakslivegen. The minibus, with nine seats, went off the road and ended up on the roof.

The two companions were sent to the hospital. So on Saturday afternoon they were arrested by the police. Accused of negligently causing the death of another person.

– These men are in custody and will remain in custody for the rest of the day. We are now conducting a tactical and technical investigation, says police lawyer Kristin Drågen.

Varden was the first to mention the case.

Witness questioning

The accident commission of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration was called in and have carried out their investigations on the spot. Police met Sunday morning to plan the way forward.

– We are beginning to form a picture of the course of events. But a lot remains, so questioning witnesses is in the focus today for us, says Drågen.

Police tell local newspaper Varden that they suspect he was driving while intoxicated and that defendants in questioning have said they do not remember who was driving the car.

– We have taken extended blood samples, but beyond that I do not want to comment on the content of the interrogations, says the lawyer for the police.

Further interrogations of the men will take place during Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.

Strongly affected

Both men have been questioned by the police. One of the accused has been appointed attorney Andreas Nyhaug.

– I don’t want to say anything about what he explained, but he’s very upset at having lost a very good friend, Nyhaug tells Varden.

The other defendant so far has not wanted a defender.

Nyhaug did not respond to questions from NRK on Sunday.
