– We are looking for the person mainly in the municipality of Tromsø, but also in the neighboring municipalities. We have chosen to apply broadly.
Here’s what Operations Manager Morten Augensen says in the Troms Police District.
At 06:21, the police were notified of a robbery at the Shell gas station in Tromsdalen in Tromsø.
Half an hour earlier, they received a report of a stolen VW Transporter from an address in Tromsøya. It is this car that the attacker is said to have used to go from the island to the mainland.
– The person in question has received a small amount of money that was in the cash register, says Augensen. He came and left the gas station in the stolen car.
Several police patrols are applying
Augensen further says that several police patrols have been searching for the car and the perpetrator on Friday morning.
The armed police decided to stop the cars in Tromsø in connection with the operation.
– The police have chosen to arm themselves as it is a robbery. We have no information on the perpetrator who used a weapon in the robbery itself, says the head of the police station, Anita Hermansen.
Augensen says the perpetrator is wearing dark clothing and what could look like rubber boots. A mask was also seen that made it difficult for police to identify the face.
– Several police patrols are searching, at the same time that the tactical and technical department investigates the case.
No one was physically injured in the robbery, and the police and the employer take care of the gas station employees.
The police state that they want information from the public in case 02800.
– It is important that we focus on the car and the person, who is probably driving somewhere now, Hermansen told NRK around 09:00 on Friday morning.
There have been several incidents in Tromsdalen this week. On Tuesday, a security guard in his 20s was stabbed by two young men on the Tromsø bridge. The man, who was seriously injured, personally communicated with police from a phone kiosk at the MIX kiosk in Tromsdalen, near the Arctic Cathedral.
